Love in a relationship is a must, but you have to remember that it takes more than love to make a relationship work. This is the third in a series of articles dealing with relationship problems and some of the possible solutions to work them out. One element that you don't hear so much about is respect. Respect of your partner has to be included in any relationship, and should be part of love.
How in the world can you be in love with your partner if they have no respect for you. Respect and love go hand in hand, and no relationship will go far without both partners having respect along with love for the other. Just saying you respect your partner, doesn't make it so. Showing your love and respect will go a long way to building a very strong relationship that can last a life time.
What constitutes respect? Well, I'll tell you what constitutes dis-respect. One very obvious sign is the use of words, especially when others are around. Now don't get me wrong, words can also be funny, it just depends on the circumstances involved. Using certain words in private can be fun for each other, but those same words in front of others can be VERY dis-respectful, and bring pain to your partner.
When you live together for many years, words that seem to be dis-respectful to others, can be just your way of fooling around. I don't mean words that can be hurtful but words that may be a little "dirty", that you wouldn't use in front of your parents or kids. But you also have to know when enough is enough. Like a pillow fight, it can be fun at first, but can get out of control. Keep it fun.
